ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve always been bad at figuring out how my art style is, and every single time I’d say it is minimalist, I like simple things. But, I also think there's a lot of symbolism and hidden meanings that go into my art, sometimes without me even realizing. So I’d say, despite my art being minimalist, there’s symbolism in the simplicity of it. Many different things influence my art, like current emotions, my work environment, the music or the mood of my environment, and more. I think that’s why figuring out my art style is difficult, because different things always influence my art. For this specific project, I can confidently say that BTS influenced my art. I used acrylic painting as my medium for these paintings, and as for some design elements, there is a lot of contrast, and different parts of the paintings that stand out more than others. There is also the use of flowers in almost all of the paintings, which is one way that I unified everything. Something I learned through this project is how to incorporate different elements that seem like won’t fit in together. I’m surprised with how I was able to take so many different things and put it into one painting. My favourite piece out of this series may be J-HOPE’s painting. I think so because it’s the least me, and with the bright neon colours, it was definitely outside my comfort zone. One thing I would change is what I did in the foreground. I don’t think it really blends in well with the background well, and it could have simply been done better. While making this project, the opacity of the neon paint surprised me, it was quite difficult working with it. My art never stays the same, but I wouldn’t say I am an experimentalist with my art. It’s more like flexibility with my art. I hope to continue being flexible with my art and create more pieces for me to be proud of.
